Fusion Optix Acquires Three LED Brands
New England companies join forces to leverage domestic sourcing capabilities
Fusion Optix, a Woburn, Massachusetts-based manufacturer of LED components and lighting systems, has acquired LEDdynamics, a Vermont-based technology company known for its LED drivers, modules, and custom lighting solutions.
The deal brings together five distinct brands under one ownership group — all operating within different segments of the lighting market: components manufacturing, luminaire manufacturing and e-commerce distribution.
Fusion Optix designs and manufactures LED components — including optics, light engines, and optical materials — primarily for OEMs and lighting manufacturers. The company is also the parent of XICO Lighting, which focuses on architectural lighting fixtures for the specification market. With the acquisition of LEDdynamics, Fusion Optix adds three more brands: LEDdynamics itself, fixture maker Prolume, and LEDSupply, an e-commerce platform serving the DIY and small-project market.

While relatively small in scale compared to some other industry acquisitions, the acquisition reflects a strategic focus on building domestic manufacturing capacity at a time when global sourcing faces increasing uncertainty.
Domestic Manufacturing Becomes a Strategic Advantage
Both Fusion Optix and LEDdynamics operate manufacturing facilities in New England — Fusion Optix in Woburn, Massachusetts, and LEDdynamics about 150 miles away in Randolph, Vermont. While both companies might source some components globally, their ability to design, engineer, and build products domestically has become increasingly valuable.
The move comes as the U.S. lighting industry faces rising tariffs on imported components from China. Proposed tariff increases could exceed 145% on optics, drivers, and other critical lighting parts — impacting companies heavily reliant on overseas supply chains.
Yeo emphasized that domestic manufacturing has long been a company priority — a strategy that has become even more valuable given today’s global supply chain challenges and rising tariffs.
A Multi-Channel Approach
The acquisition gives Fusion Optix a broader reach across the lighting market. LEDdynamics’ core business supplies OEMs with LED drivers, modules, and controls. “The LEDdynamics pedigree, particularly in the technology of miniature LED drivers and high-performance light engines and lighting controls, was very attractive to us,” explained Yeo. He added that Prolume “has a legacy of several iconic installations and deep knowledge of outdoor and IP-rated products,” further complementing Fusion Optix’s portfolio.
“This is Fusion Optix’s first major acquisition so we really took our time to evaluate the businesses and get to know the teams. Like us, they are engineers, technologists and lighting industry people with a passion for innovation and making a positive contribution. It’s very exciting to welcome them to our team as we move into the next phase of growth.”
— Terence Yeo, CEO, Fusion Optix
Fusion Optix expects operational synergies across engineering, production, and customer support — particularly given the proximity of the Woburn and Randolph facilities. “The additional manufacturing and engineering capacity is also very additive to Fusion Optix and our OEM customers,” Yeo said, noting that LEDSupply’s fast-growing e-commerce platform “provides a great channel for us to increase accessibility to our components and solutions.”
A Practical Move
This acquisition seems to reflect a pragmatic approach to growth — combining focused businesses that serve different but complementary parts of the lighting ecosystem.
With increasing pressure on global sourcing and heightened interest in U.S.-based manufacturing, the deal may position the new Fusion Optix to better navigate a shifting market landscape.
