Acuity Brands Changes the LightFair Landscape
In a move that one independent lighting company president described to us as "Macy's just pulled out of the big mall in town," North America's largest manufacturer of luminaires, Acuity Brands, has announced that the company will no longer be exhibiting at Lightfair 2021 in New York City.
Citing a number of factors, but emphasizing employee health and well-being, the company issued a written statement to its independent agent network explaining the rationale. Acuity Brands shared the letter with us, too, and it is published below.
- Today is the deadline for exhibiting companies to downsize their booth size with minimal penalty.
- Signify and Cooper Lighting Solutions each have smaller-than-usual booths, 20’ x 20’.
- And, as we've reported in the past, Hubbell Lighting, Legrand, Lutron and Lumenpulse are sitting this LightFair out.
- The yet-to-be-updated exhibitor count on the LightFair website currently stands at 259, down from 295 on July 20.
The Acuity Brands booth was slated for 1500 square feet by the main entrance so it appears that there will likely be some floor plan consolidation that may be occurring in the coming weeks.
Trevor Palmer, Acuity Brands President, was scheduled to be interviewed by inside.lighting’s Al Uszynski in a 30-minute sit-down at the Lightfair Buzz Pavilion. Acuity Brands informed us that Palmer is no longer planning to attend LightFair.
In what might be a somewhat-related glimmer of promise, The Armory Show, a major art show, is being held at Javits Center this week and has received a very positive review from an industry publication.
Below is the statement from Acuity Brands:
