Illumus Acquires Barn Light Electric
ILP and Green Creative remain independent as Illumus eyes more acquisitions
Illumus, the Sanford, Florida-based lighting group, has acquired Barn Light Electric, a Titusville, Florida manufacturer known for its handcrafted, vintage-inspired architectural lighting. Located just 42 miles apart, the two companies operate in distinct segments of the lighting market. The deal marks the third brand in the Illumus portfolio, which already includes Green Creative — its LED lamp and fixture line — and ILP, known for performance-driven commercial and industrial luminaires.
The acquisition brings a more design-forward dimension to the Illumus lineup, broadening its appeal across architectural, commercial, industrial, and outdoor applications. In an exclusive conversation with Inside Lighting, company executives emphasized that Barn Light will continue to operate autonomously, joining its sister brands in maintaining independent sales teams and agency networks. “Each Illumus brand operates independently,” a company spokesperson told us. “No plans to consolidate.”
This approach reflects Illumus’ go-to-market model. While Green Creative and ILP already work through separate rep networks in many markets, some serendipitous overlap exists in major cities such as Philadelphia (Penn Lighting), Atlanta (Next Generation Lighting), and San Diego (OCS Lighting & Control), where all three brands already coexist on a single line card.
The deal closed on Friday October 3 and terms were not disclosed. Bryan and Donna Scott, who founded Barn Light Electric in 2008, sold the business to Illumus after nearly two decades of building the company into a distinctive U.S. lighting brand.
A Strategic Expansion of Illumus’ Platform
On its face, the Barn Light acquisition fits neatly into a platform expansion narrative. Illumus now spans high-efficiency retrofit products, utility-grade commercial lighting, and design-forward architectural fixtures — with each brand maintaining its own identity and market position.
Barn Light’s addition gives Illumus a stronger position in domestic manufacturing at a time when BAA and BABA compliance is increasingly critical for federally funded projects. As Devin Jernigan, VP of Strategy, Marketing, and Innovation, put it, the move supports “expanding U.S.-produced, BAA and BABA-compliant lighting for our customers.”
Company executives also indicated that additional acquisitions are likely as Illumus continues to build out a comprehensive, multi-brand lighting platform.
What Barn Light Brings to the Table
Founded in 2008 and employing about 125 people, Barn Light Electric has built its reputation on craftsmanship and aesthetic flexibility. The company’s product catalog spans pendants, gooseneck lights, sconces, chandeliers, and more — serving both commercial and residential markets with an architectural design ethos that has few peers among U.S. manufacturers.

Unlike many decorative lighting companies that import or rebrand products, Barn Light produces its fixtures in-house, offering porcelain enamel finishes, oversized shades, and finish options that include, yes, magenta and chartreuse.
Where ILP targets utility and efficiency, and Green Creative delivers retrofit solutions, Barn Light fills the portfolio’s aesthetic gap with architectural lighting that resonates in hospitality, mixed-use, and high-end commercial projects.
As Neil Yeargin, CEO of Illumus put it, “Our brands are stronger together, and this move ensures that our customers have access to a comprehensive lighting portfolio.”
The Road Ahead
For the broader lighting industry, the acquisition is a sign that Illumus isn’t just trying to keep pace — it’s aiming to lead in multiple lanes. The mix of utilitarian, retrofit, and design-forward solutions places the company in a unique competitive position, especially as federal investments and design trends push specifiers to demand both compliance and style.
If the Barn Light deal is any indication, Illumus is positioning itself not just for growth, but for long-term relevance in a rapidly evolving lighting landscape.
