Roles are reassigned while core teams and priorities remain in place

Signify has announced that Kevin Poyck will retire from Signify on May 1, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition in its Americas business. His responsibilities as President of Genlyte, Color Kinetics, and the Entertainment Business Unit will be divided between two leaders. Christy Tilton will be appointed President of Genlyte Solutions, while Sameer Sodhi will continue leading the global Color Kinetics and Entertainment businesses.

Tilton assumes responsibility for Genlyte Solutions across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Northern Latin America, with oversight spanning sales, marketing, operations, manufacturing, and quality. Sodhi’s role remains unchanged, maintaining continuity in the company’s specialty lighting segments.

Signify’s Cooper Lighting Solutions business remains under the leadership of Kraig Kasler and is not impacted by these changes.

How the Company Is Framing the Change

In the official Signify announcement, CEO As Tempelman positioned the transition as a continuation of the current leadership structure, stating: “I would like to thank Kevin for the important role he has played in the Americas. He guided the organization through challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, with resilience and dedication, while building employee engagement and a deep commitment to our customers. I am confident that our strong leadership team will continue to advance our business in the region. I look forward to continuing our close collaboration.”

The announcement notes that Poyck will “retire from Signify,” language that focuses specifically on his departure from the company. In the lighting sector, executives with comparable experience and tenure have often resurfaced in new leadership roles after a transition period. Poyck’s long track record, coupled with the fact that he is believed to be well short of a traditional retirement age, suggests he could reemerge in the industry after obligations to Signify expire.

Tilton Steps Into the Role

Christy Tilton

Tilton joined Signify in 2021 and has been closely involved in agent partnerships and customer engagement, particularly within the commercial and industrial sectors through distributor national accounts and agent channels. Her new role expands that scope across the full Genlyte Solutions business, which includes brands such as Hadco, Lightolier, and Gardco.

Her appointment also stands out in a lighting sector where women remain underrepresented in top executive roles at larger, $200M-plus lighting manufacturers, joining leaders such as Maryrose Sylvester, former CEO of GE Lighting, and Susan Hakkarainen, Chairman and CEO of Lutron.

From a channel perspective, her familiarity with agents and customers is a consistent theme in early reactions.

Agent Perspective From a Key Partner

SESCO Lighting, Genlyte Solutions’ largest agent partner, represents the company across a broad territory spanning Florida, the Carolinas, and parts of Texas.

John Palk, CEO of SESCO Lighting, said: “When Kevin started in the fourth quarter of 2019, he brought an energy, enthusiasm, and ‘get things done’ attitude and expertise that was perfectly timed for our relationship with Genlyte. Many of us got to witness his leadership up close and personal. That, along with his genuineness, was a perfect formula for SESCO and many other agents.”

He added, “It’s exciting to see Christy move forward in this role. I firmly believe Christy is in a position now to take Genlyte to the next level and will continue the energy she and Kevin have built.”

What Comes Next

The structure of the transition is direct. Tilton takes on expanded leadership of Genlyte Solutions, Sodhi continues in his role, and Poyck exits the organization.

For lighting people, the practical focus is less on the announcement itself and more on what follows. The relationships, expectations, and operating rhythms across the channel remain in place. The next phase will be defined by how those elements continue to perform under new leadership.
