LEDVANCE Extends OSRAM Brand Licensing Deal
Eight years after spinoff, company maintains rights to OSRAM-branded lighting products
Over eight years after LEDVANCE was carved out of Osram (also formerly known in North America as OSRAM SYLVANIA), the company has announced an extension and expansion of its licensing agreement for the OSRAM brand.
LEDVANCE will remain the exclusive licensee of the OSRAM brand for general lighting lamps beyond 2026 "well into the next decade," according to a company statement. The deal also expands LEDVANCE's rights to include OSRAM-branded luminaires in general lighting markets outside mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.
When contacted for clarification on the specific term of the licensing deal, LEDVANCE representatives would only confirm it extends "into the next decade." Financial terms were not disclosed.
In July 2016, Osram spun off its general lighting lamps business, creating LEDVANCE as a separate global entity. Later that month, it was announced that a Chinese consortium agreed to purchase LEDVANCE for approximately $440 million. Osram eventually exited the general lighting business and merged with ams to become primarily a sensor company, now known as ams Osram.
"LEDVANCE is the ideal partner for us to advance the OSRAM brand globally in the field of general lighting," said ams OSRAM CEO Aldo Kamper. "OSRAM is a strong brand that consumers around the world trust since many years, and this long-term agreement shows the value the brand continues to represent."
LEDVANCE Executive Senior Vice President Jue Wang stated, "The expanded license under the famous OSRAM brand enables us to further grow our business around the globe."
The companies indicated that consumers can expect to find OSRAM-branded luminaires in stores and online "very soon." LEDVANCE is poised to become the partner with the largest scope and variety of general lighting products sold under the OSRAM brand worldwide.
