ams OSRAM Sheds its Last "Non-Strategic" Lighting Business
Entertainment brand Clay Paky to be acquired by Munich-based ARRI
ams OSRAM announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Clay Paky entertainment lighting business to Germany based ARRI AG. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed and the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
ARRI AG, headquartered in Munich, Germany, is a European designer and manufacturer of camera and lighting systems as well as system solutions for the film, broadcast, and media industries, with a worldwide distribution and service network.
Italy-based Clay Paky was established in 1976 and acquired by OSRAM in 2014. The company is a global entertainment lighting provider in the professional high-end entertainment lighting market.
Multiple public statements made by ams OSRAM over the past year have indicated that the company had a muliti-prong plan to spin-off the “non-strategic” lighting businesses in an effort to eliminate distractions and free up capital.
The non-strategic businesses are:
Digital Systems North America |
Sold to Acuity Brands in 2021 |
Digital Lumens / Encelium |
Sold to Skyview Capital in 2021 |
Fluence |
Sold to Signify in 2022 |

Sold to Plastic Omnium in 2022 |
Traxon |

With this agreement, ams OSRAM implements the last of the divestments which the company had communicated to pursue following the acquisition of OSRAM. Moving forward, ams OSRAM will focus on the high technology semiconductor business and its automotive & specialty lamps business and the announcement represents a milestone in the implementation of ams OSRAM’s strategy to focus on core technology areas in illumination, visualization, and sensing and to divest businesses that are not core to the company’s strategy.
