General lighting maker files for protection against debtors that are owed $1.1 million

SOUTH HACKENSACK, NJ – On Friday, February 18, Eco Lighting USA, a New Jersey based lighting maker, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Eco Lighting USA marketed LED and induction lighting products for commercial and industrial applications. The company has not been going to market through lighting agents, but instead sold products directly to electrical distributors, contractors and end users. The company also pursued government projects through alternate channels.

The bankruptcy filing is among the more straightforward we’ve seen. Just three creditors are each owed a very round-number multiple of $100,000:

The creditors cited in the filing are:

  • Carmen Williams – $100,000.00

  • MJL Enterprises – $300,000.00

  • U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Disaster Assistance – $700,000.00

MJL Enterprises is a Virginia based government contractor that markets government buying solutions.

The SBA Office of Disaster Assistance executes a government program that provides low-interest disaster loans to businesses. While the filing doesn't state any details relating to the SBA debt, Eco Lighting is located in South Hackensack – an area of Northern New Jersey that was affected by major flooding in 2019 and again in 2021 as part of the effects of Hurricane Ida – a "hundred year storm" that killed 30 New Jersey residents.
