Louis Poulsen works to make the dark side of the moon more habitable

In what appears to be an out-of-territory, single-name specification, Louis Poulsen is working to provide lighting products that aid in enabling lunar habitation.

According to a just-published article in Fast Company entitled "The moon is completely uninhabitable. Could high-tech lighting change that?" , SAGA Space Architects is teaming up with Louis Poulsen to provide lighting solutions for a collapsible egg-shaped pod that will shelter astronauts on the moon. Due to the way that the moon orbits planet Earth, it typically gets about two weeks' worth of daylight followed by an equal amount of darkness. The Louis Poulsen lighting components inside the pod include dynamic circadian light ceiling panels, task lighting, and small moveable lamps.

  • Circadian panels will begin to brighten around 6am and then go dark in the evening.
  • The circadian panels create variety by replicating both cloudy days and sunny days.
  • A Louis Poulsen product designer explains that the company is trying to make a "hospitable and — perhaps — even comfortable environment for astronauts visiting the moon."
