The IES Boston Illumination Awards, hosted by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Boston and Rhode Island Sections, celebrates excellence in architectural lighting design. Held annually at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel on the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, the event honors exceptional projects in lighting.
Each year, a panel of judges selects projects that exemplify high standards of design, with awards distributed among various firms. The ceremony draws nearly 500 lighting people for a night of recognition, networking, and celebration. The evening includes a cocktail hour, dinner, awards presentation, and an afterparty, providing a lively atmosphere to celebrate the lighting community’s achievements.
The night’s highlight is the coveted Lighthouse Award, given to the top project of the year. In true Boston fashion, the event often coincides with the second round of the NBA playoffs, where the 18-time World Champion Boston Celtics are typically competing, adding even more excitement and energy to the City of Champions.
The Boston IES Illumination Awards continues to support excellence in architectural lighting design consistent with the city’s winning history.
