C&O Sales Acquires Meglio Lighting St. Louis

Signify’s Genlyte Solutions territory consolidates across C&O’s Great Plains footprint

C&O Sales has spent the past few years filling in a map. On October 1, it fills in St. Louis.

The Kansas City-based lighting agency is acquiring Meglio Lighting St. Louis, the lighting business serving eastern Missouri and central and southern Illinois. The operation will take the C&O Sales name on October 1, and according to the company, all existing sales representatives will stay in place. The announcement did not include financial terms.

The deal is narrower than the Meglio name might suggest. Meglio & Associates keeps what it calls its Construction and Industrial business, the electrical supply rep side of the company, anchored by lines including Atkore and Service Wire. That business will continue serving customers in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. Only the lighting side changes hands.

Filling the Gap

When C&O acquired Iowa's NRG Sales in 2023, we noted that the one hole in its Great Plains footprint was eastern Missouri, where Meglio held Signify's Genlyte Solutions product portfolio. The two agencies had shared Missouri duties for Genlyte Solutions ever since. That arrangement now ends, and C&O's coverage runs across Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa, plus central and southern Illinois.

C&O also recently added Williams, the Carthage, Missouri manufacturer, to its line card. Williams had been represented for decades by Mercer Zimmerman, the leading lighting agency in Kansas and Missouri. By most accounts, Williams does substantial business in its home territory.

Fewer Genlyte Reps, Bigger Territories

The deal fits a steady pattern among Genlyte Solutions agencies: the list keeps getting shorter while the remaining territories get larger. Lightspec has expanded across the Northeast and Midwest, SESCO Lighting across the South, and right next door, Chicago's CLW moved into Indiana a couple of years ago.

For lighting people in St. Louis, the near-term change is mostly a new name on the business card. Meglio Lighting's independent lines are expected to make the move to C&O, though agency deals rarely transfer a line card perfectly intact. A few manufacturers may land elsewhere, particularly where products overlap with C&O's existing roster, while the larger territory could open doors with brands that want one agent across the region.
