LMPG and Ecosense Settle Patent Lawsuit
Ecosense's TROV and Aurora products seemingly continue to incorporate the KAST feature
A patent infringement lawsuit filed by LMPG, the Canadian parent company of Lumenpulse, against Korrus Inc. — the parent company of Ecosense Lighting — has been dismissed following a confidential settlement between the two lighting manufacturers.
The case, filed in January 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, accused Ecosense of infringing on U.S. Patent No. 8,643,304. That patent, granted to LMPG in 2014, covers technology for detecting and adapting to different dimming protocols used in lighting control systems.
LMPG alleged that Ecosense's TROV and Aurora products with the KAST feature, which can automatically detect and adjust to different dimming signals (like ELV, 0-10V, DALI, and DMX), is utilizing the same methods that Lumenpulse patented back in 2014.

Ecosense continues to market the KAST feature on its website, suggesting that the settlement may have centered on financial terms — such as licensing or damages — rather than requiring the company to discontinue or modify the technology.
Though the original complaint spanned only six pages, uncommonly concise for a patent case, it clearly identified the patent at issue and two Ecosense product lines alleged to contain the infringing technology.
On March 17, 2025, both parties filed a joint notice informing the court that they had reached a settlement in principle and were finalizing a written agreement. Three days later, Judge André Birotte Jr. issued an order dismissing the case without costs and without prejudice, allowing either side to reopen the matter within 45 days if needed.
The specific terms of the settlement remain confidential, and neither LMPG nor Ecosense has commented to Inside Lighting on the outcome.
