Joe DiBernardo and other unnamed investors new owners of New Jersey lighting maker

Mercury Lighting Products Co., Inc., a well-known manufacturer of architectural and general lighting products based in Fairfield, New Jersey (Exit 159), announced that it has been acquired by a group of private investors with more than 20 years of experience in the lighting industry. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, and the names of the investors were not announced.

Mercury, a company that has shifted its focus over the past 10+ years toward architectural, made-to-order lighting solutions, was founded in 1946. Initially focused on affordable general lighting, the company expanded into architectural lighting as it transitioned to LED solutions. In 2018, the company fully embraced this shift by rebranding to Mercury Architectural Lighting.

UPDATE:

Seven hours after our original report, Inside Lighting received confirmation from Joe DiBernardo of Mercury Lighting Products that the company has been acquired by an investment group that includes DiBernardo himself. According to DiBernardo, this acquisition represents a significant milestone for the company, positioning it for future growth and continued innovation.

"The team has 80 years of combined lighting industry experience," DiBernardo said. "One of the investors is the proprietor of a large logistics company. With this combination of unique resources, we seek to bring an exciting new chapter to Mercury’s long and successful history, leveraging its reputation for quality and best-in-class service."

Also, we were told that further details about the future plans for Mercury Lighting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Mercury is also known for its strong customer base in the Northeast corridor, having built a loyal following over the years with its ability to meet lead times and ship quickly from Essex County, New Jersey.  The company website cites 25 employees in office-based departments, with a larger workforce engaged in warehouse, shipping, and manufacturing roles.

Despite the change in ownership, Mercury has assured stakeholders that operations will continue as usual, with plans to introduce new product lines and improve company operations.

Inside Lighting first reached out to Mercury on July 10 to inquire about the potential acquisition. At that time, Joe DiBernardo, a key manager at Mercury and former manager at Mark Lighting during its acquisition in 2007, stated that there was no news to report. However, these recent developments have since confirmed the acquisition.

We have been in communication with Mercury's management since the weekend and hope to provide further details on this transaction soon.
