With Clay Paky divested, only one "Non-Strategic" Business of ams OSRAM Remains
Inventronics' planned acquisition of OSRAM's Digital Systems Eurasia last divestiture to close
ams OSRAM announced in December that it entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Clay Paky entertainment lighting business to Germany based ARRI AG. Yesterday, the companies announced that the trasaction is now closed, leaving just one more lighting-related business in ams OSRAM's divestiture queue -- ams OSRAM's Digital Systems Eurasia business.
In June 2022, China-based Inventronics agreed to aquire Digital Systems Eurasia and the transaction is expected to close in the coming months. The North American Digital Systems business was acquired by Acuity Brands in 2021.
Multiple public statements made by ams OSRAM in recent years have indicated that the company had a muliti-prong plan to spin-off what the company referred to as “non-strategic” lighting businesses in an effort to eliminate distractions and free up capital.
The non-strategic businesses are:
Digital Systems North America |
Sold to Acuity Brands in 2021 |
Digital Lumens / Encelium |
Sold to Skyview Capital in 2021 |
Fluence |
Sold to Signify in 2022 |
Automotive Lighting Systems |
Sold to Plastic Omnium in 2022 |
Traxon |
Sold to Prosperity Group in 2022 |
Clay Paky |
Sold to ARRI in 2023 |
Digital Systems Eurasia |
Announced sale to Inventronics in June 2022. |
Moving forward, ams OSRAM will focus on the high technology semiconductor business and its automotive & specialty lamps business and the announcement represents a milestone in the implementation of ams OSRAM’s strategy to focus on core technology areas in illumination, visualization, and sensing and to divest businesses that are not core to the company’s strategy.
ams OSRAM, once among the lighting industry's "Big Three" lamp companies, continues to manufacture low power, mid-power and high-power LEDs for general illumination and automotive applications.
