Ferguson Acquires Another Lighting Company
Minka Group is the latest lighting acquisition for the $23 billion distributor
Ferguson, the number one plumbing distributor in the U.S. and also a distributor of HVAC, electrical and lighting products has acquired another lighting company – Minka Group. Minka Group includes the lighting and fan brands Metropolitan Lighting Fixture Co., George Kovacs, minkaAire and Minka Lavery. Minka Group’s products seem to target residential, light commercial and hospitality markets, among others.
As a global $23 billion distributor of residential and commercial supplies, Ferguson has made lighting acquisitions in the past, including lighting showrooms in Indiana and Texas. But in recent times, Ferguson has shifted from investing solely in additional retail locations to buying actual lighting brands – a strategy that may give them a vertically integrated edge in a competitive market.
In January, Ferguson acquired RP Lighting + Fans, a brand that goes to market though multiple channels including C&I lighting agents. In 2018, Ferguson acquired Millennium Lighting, an own-brand provider of decorative lighting fixtures.
Ferguson has 245 Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery locations in the United States that sell lighting and fan products.
