Our Favorite Lighting-Related Instagram Feeds
With over 1 billion monthly users, Instagram is among the most popular social media platforms in the world. Its mobile friendly user experience combined with an emphasis on visual content makes it a perfect way for lighting people and companies to share illuminating stories about lighting design, products, ideas, research, applications and so on.
Here are some of our favorite lighting-related Instagram feeds to follow:
Gustavo Tello
@gustavotello
His 2.2 Million followers can’t be wrong. Gustavo is an architectural lighting designer who gets involved in amazingly luxurious residential lighting projects – many in the Miami area. His feed includes cool project photos but also pics with his athlete and celebrity clientele. We occasionally see the “real Gustavo” with intermittent peeks of his family life and Boston upbringing.
Delivered Lumens
@deliveredlumens
JP Bedell of SDA Lighting & Controls shows that lighting salespeople don’t need to be salesy on social media. JP shares information, ideas and inspiration about the world inside and outside of architectural lighting. His laid back persona and thought-provoking curiosity about big picture lighting ideas make us stop, watch and listen every time we see him recording from The Shed.
The Lighting Police
@thelightingpolice
Don’t judge this feed solely by its 22 posts. The frequent Instagram stories (that disappear after 24 hours) show lighting installations from around the world that range from extreme fails to poor lighting choices. To our dismay, The Lighting Police shares criticism in a constructive and non-insulting manner.
Lighting Design Mag
@lightingdesignmag
There are numerous lighting design firms that post stunning architectural lighting design photos. If we listed all the great ones, it would monopolize this article. Look for your favorite award winning design firms and follow them. If you simply want an occasional taste from a variety of architectural lighting design projects from around the globe, follow lightingdesignmag.
Barn Light Electric
@barnlight
This Florida-based lighting manufacturer shares vibrant and creative application photos of its farmhouse chic luminaires for commercial and residential applications. See how the company inspires design ideas with fixture installations at beach homes, drive through restaurants, chalets and pubs.
Women in Lighting
@womeninlighting
An inspirational platform that profiles women working in lighting and aims to raise their overall visibility.
Philips Hue:
@philipshue
“Alexa, all lights magenta” is how we set the lights when we walk into the inside.lighting world headquarters office pre-sunrise. Even if Hue isn’t your chosen smart lighting platform, the feed shares lots of creative inspiration for smart lighting enthusiasts.
LIT Lighting Design Awards
@litdesignawards
The LIT Lighting Design Awards were created to recognize the efforts of talented international lighting product designers and lighting implementers. The feed shows the award-winning people, projects and products.
Lytei
@lyte_i
Follow Lytei for posts that contain polished, well-produced, professional stories about lighting. View their stories for more casual behind-the-scenes peeks at Sam and his lighting adventures.
Clay Paky, an Osram Business
@clay.paky
Follow for the very nice theatrical lighting and controls. Stay for the photos of hair bands.
inside.lighting
@inside.lighting
This Instagram feed clearly hasn’t reached the level of greatness of the feeds above, but the author of this article is contractually obligated to include inside.lighting in this list. Follow inside.lighting for lighting insights, info and occasional shenanigans.
Hoping for a comeback story: IALD
@iald
With only 20 posts in the last year, the IALD Instagram feed has seemingly lost some of its mojo, but we are hoping for a content comeback reminiscent of the past posts that have attracted 5000+ followers in recent years.
Honorable Mention:
