Fulham Buys Nualight: Niche Deal in Refrigeration Lighting

Acquisition targets refrigerated and display case lighting across global markets
In the world of specialty lighting, where reliability at -40 degrees Fahrenheit matters more than buzzwords, Fulham’s latest move is less headline-grabbing and more precision strike. The Hawthorne, California-based maker of commercial and industrial lighting components has acquired Nualight, a niche but seasoned European player known for refrigeration and display case lighting.
The acquisition reflects Fulham’s continued strategy of reinforcing its footprint in high-performance, low-temperature lighting — an arena where few players operate and even fewer succeed.
While many in North America may not recognize the Nualight name, this isn’t Fulham’s first encounter with the Cork-based company. In 2016, Fulham purchased Nualight’s LED driver business — then operating under the Lumotech name — turning it into Fulham’s European Design Centre. That move deepened Fulham’s access to continental sales channels and solidified its engineering presence in Europe.
Nearly a decade later, Fulham is circling back — not to pick up parts, but the whole package.
Nualight, once better known for its early push into sustainable LED refrigeration lighting, brings 20 years of domain-specific experience. As Fulham CEO Antony Corrie put it, the merger combines “engineering strength and global reach” with “innovative, reliable, and sustainable lighting solutions.”
The companies will operate independently for now, though the roadmap includes shared technology, aligned customer strategies, and a fusion of manufacturing best practices.
Behind the Deal: Strategic, Not Splashy
This is not a blockbuster deal — and Fulham’s not pretending otherwise. But it’s precisely these types of acquisitions that deepen resilience and specialization in an industry often swept up in generalist trends.
Fulham already markets its ICEHORSE line of LED drivers, which function in temperature extremes from -40 to 125.6°F. With Nualight’s product and market expertise in refrigerated and display case lighting, Fulham is doubling down on a space few companies navigate with confidence. The deal also reinforces Fulham’s commitment to custom OEM solutions, particularly for food and medical storage environments.
Backing Fulham in this long game is private equity firm Graycliff Partners, which took a stake in the company in September 2022. With Graycliff’s investment, Fulham is sharpening its acquisition toolkit—now deploying it with purpose rather than fanfare.
As for Nualight, CEO Andrew Cronin framed the deal as a springboard: “Joining Fulham’s global organization will help us expand our product portfolio and deliver advanced refrigeration and display lighting solutions more efficiently.”
No public terms. No overpromises. Just a niche play that says more about Fulham’s long-term strategy than it does about short-term buzz.
