PE Firm Buys Texas-Based Manufacturer Techlight
Outdoor lighting manufacturer enters new phase with private equity backing
PE Hub reported yesterday that private equity firm Gen Cap America has acquired Techlight, a Texas-based manufacturer of commercial and landscape lighting products. The acquisition, funded through Gen Cap America’s Southwest SA fund, involves a management buyout from the founding family.
Techlight, established in 1986 by Doug Schoggin, produces a wide range of lighting products, including luminaires, light poles, mounts, and brackets, with primary manufacturing operations in Cleburne, Texas. This acquisition follows the untimely passing of Schoggin in 2022, after which the company has been managed by his family.
Techlight goes to market through various channels, including commercial and industrial lighting agents across the U.S. The company custom-builds its products for sectors such as parking, sports, and residential lighting. According to PE Hub, Gen Cap America President Barney Byrd noted that Techlight's demonstrated success and quality management align with the firm’s investment strategy.
Gen Cap America is a Nashville-based private equity firm founded in 1988, specializing in middle-market acquisitions and recapitalizations. The firm targets businesses with revenues between $10 million and $200 million, seeking companies with strong operating histories and management teams that can drive growth.
Techlight, headquartered in Dallas with manufacturing in Cleburne, Texas, operates a 100,000-square-foot facility. The acquisition aims to strengthen Techlight's market presence, providing growth opportunities under Gen Cap America’s guidance, according to PE Hub.
