Lumileds Sells Automotive Lamps Business for $238 Million
Prominent LED maker sheds one of three divisions, honing more focus on illumination markets
Lumileds, a prominent global LED manufacturer, announced the sale of its Lamps and Accessories business to Michigan-based First Brands Group for $238 million. This move allows Lumileds to sharpen its focus on LED and MicroLED areas across various sectors including automotive, general illumination, displays, and flash applications.
The acquisition, anticipated to close in the second quarter of 2024, will see Lumileds' automotive lamps factories in China, Germany, and Poland transfer to First Brands. Lumileds will retain its other manufacturing sites in the Netherlands, the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, and Jiaxing, China. Revenues of the business being acquired were not disclosed.
First Brands Group serves the automotive aftermarket industry with category-leading brands including TRICO wipers, Carter fuel pumps, ANCO wipers, Airtex fuel pumps, StrongArm lift supports, Autolite spark plugs and FRAM filters. Under First Brands, the acquired division aims to strengthen its position within the automotive accessories market.

Lumileds automotive lighting solutions serve both the aftermarket and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and supplier (OES) markets. Lumileds claims a significant presence in the automotive lighting sector, with one in two cars in Europe and one in three worldwide equipped with their lighting solutions.
The company provides a wide array of lighting options for different types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Additionally, their automotive lamps product range includes technologies such as Halogen, Xenon, HiPerVision, and various LED options tailored for specific vehicle lighting applications like high beam, low beam, and signaling.
