The Zigbee Alliance name is retired as the organization redefines its platform strategies

Zigbee Alliance has operated as a global, open standards organization for nearly 20 years. The Alliance was founded on the technology of Zigbee and has continued to expand in scale, scope and impact. And now, Zigbee Alliance has announced its new name and identity: Connectivity Standards Alliance. The change comes with a complete rebranding that introduces a new logo with royal blue color schemes and a branding story woven throughout all of the elements.

The organization has also introduced Matter. It’s the rebranding of its CHIP project and is based on the following principles:

  • Simplicity: Products that are easy to purchase and that simplify the connected experience
  • Interoperability: Devices from multiple brands can work together
  • Reliability: Consistent local connectivity
  • Security: Robust for consumers and streamlined for developers

According to the announcement, Matter is:

  • The foundation for connected things.
  • A seal of approval that devices will work seamlessly together today & tomorrow.
  • Simplifying development for manufacturers and increasing compatibility for consumers.

Tobin Richardson, the CEO of Connectivity Standards Alliance, described matter as "a building block for the Internet of Things."
