Cable & wire behemoth expands its lighting footprint with acquisition of supply-focused Topaz Lighting

North America’s largest wire and cable producer just got more serious about the lighting business with the acquisition of Long Island, NY based Topaz Lighting Corporation.

Topaz Lighting is best known for being a distributor-focused maker of contractor friendly electrical fittings and lighting fixtures. In 2020, Topaz Lighting Corp. claimed to have 219 U.S. employees in its 2020 Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) bank loan application.

According to Forbes, Southwire ranks 78th among America's Largest Private Companies 2021. The company is estimated to produce revenues of $5.5 billion and employ 7,500 people worldwide.

The move gives Topaz Lighting an opportunity to apply Southwire's business leverage and muscle to accelerate sales of the Topaz brand. Southwire goes to market in the U.S. and Canada through multiple channels including supply reps, also commonly referred to as NEMRA agents. The respective agents of Southwire and Topaz Lighting differ in many large markets.

In a company statement, Rich Stinson, Southwire’s president and CEO noted “We’re very excited about the addition of Topaz and are pleased to welcome their employees to the Southwire team, specifically to our Tools, Components and Assembled Solutions business. We want to provide our customers with solutions for every phase of the job. The acquisition of Topaz helps us further bolster our components offering and expand our portfolio of Lighting products and solutions."
