LightFair Attendees: Bring Your COVID Paperwork
NYC is first major U.S. city to implement vaccine requirements for certain indoor activities.
LightFair has updated its safety measures to require COVID vaccine or recent negative COVID test.
On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced plans to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination at restaurants, gyms and indoor entertainment venues. This new policy makes New York the first major U.S. city to have such requirements. The city will require proof of at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and will be enforced starting September 13.

We are currently 82 days away from the scheduled start of LightFair at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. With the indoor dining vaccine rule enforcement going into effect on September 13, it seems quite possible that those policies will be in effect on the first day of our beloved LightFair just six weeks later.
LightFair has been extremely proactive in communicating its health and safety protocols dating back to last year’s announcement of the Safer Floors, Safer Show initiative. The organizers have been fluid in updating and adjusting the safety guidelines in response to the state of public health. LightFair recently updated its policies indicating that all attendees – regardless of classification – must show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test.
Masks will be required at LightFair, too.
We continue to monitor other events at the Javits Center including the still-greenlighted 10-day New York International Auto Show that hopes to attract over 1 million visitors to the convention center in late August. If the Auto Show is a success with little to no COVID fallout, then that will be a valuable case study demonstrating how a large venue can take place amidst a resurgent pandemic. (UPDATE: Aug 4, 3:43pm EDT -- The New York International Auto Show has been canceled due to COVID Delta variant concerns.)
Below are the latest guidelines from LightFair. Policies are subject to change.
COVID HEALTH CHECK
Fully vaccinated individuals must show a government issued proof of vaccination.
Unvaccinated individuals must present proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test result.
- PCR test within 72 hours or antigen test within 6 hours of arrival to Javits Center.
- If you are onsite for longer than 3 days, you will be required to retest and present updated test results.
- NYC testing options are available throughout the city.
MASK REQUIREMENT
Masks are required to be worn by ALL individuals, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. This includes attendees, exhibitors, vendors, and LightFair staff.
- Masks must be placed over your nose and mouth and secured under your chin.
- Additional PPE will be available on-site as needed.
