IESNYC Honors the 2024 Service Award Recipients
The Illuminating Engineering Society of New York City (IESNYC) proudly acknowledges and honors outstanding individuals through its esteemed Service Awards program. These awards recognize the dedication, service, and significant contributions of individuals who have tirelessly worked to advance the mission and success of the IESNYC and the lighting community at large.
The 2024 IESNYC Service Awards were presented as part of this year’s Lumen Awards Gala on June 20, 2024, showcasing the exemplary achievements of the following recipients:
IES Section Meritorious Service Award
Mike Barr, Lutron
Mike Barr is an exceptional leader, a role model, and a mentor to the IESNYC community and beyond. Over the decades, many individuals and committees have benefited from his thoughtful, objective, and professional counsel, guiding our section to higher levels of success. He served as President during the challenging times of the pandemic, ensuring the section’s financial stability and allowing us to expand our initiatives, offer more support, and achieve greater accomplishments. Mike advocates enthusiastically for equity in lighting and continuously seeks to grow and learn. His unique coaching style has positively impacted students, Emerging Professionals, and industry veterans alike.
IESNYC Brilliance Award
Megan Carroll, Lighting Services, Inc.
Megan Carroll is the "Shining Light" in the NYC Community. As the chair of the steering committee for NYControlled, Megan has been instrumental in bringing a brand-new show into being, weathering all challenges with grace, humor, and grit. As the immediate past president of the NYC Section, she remains a mentor, friend, and inspiration to current and future leaders. Megan has served the society as chair of the Annual Conference Committee and the IA committee, consistently demonstrating forthrightness, clarity, and dedication in all her endeavors.
IESNYC Special Recognition Award
Catherine Bontempo, Harborlight Design
Over the past three decades, Catherine Bontempo has worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to enhance the IESNYC brand and establish a unique "only in New York" identity. Her forward-looking leadership and advocacy have been pivotal in achieving the section’s educational and business goals. Her contributions to NYControlled were invaluable, transforming a struggling initiative into one of the most successful inaugural programs of the IESNYC.
IESNYC Special Recognition Award
Brigid Hardiman, Available Light
Brigid Hardiman receives special recognition for her continuous and thoughtful leadership in advancing diversity and equity in the lighting industry. Her efforts make the New York City Section more sensitive, respectful, and conscientious as individuals and as a society.
“On behalf of the IESNYC, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all the recipients of the 2024 IESNYC Service Awards,” said Shoshanna Segal, President of the IESNYC (Hartranft Lighting Design). “Your exceptional dedication, passion, and hard work have greatly enriched our section and the lighting industry as a whole. We are truly grateful for your remarkable contributions and the enduring impact you have made. Your efforts inspire us all and set a high standard for excellence.”
