AES Industries acquires Sunoptics. California factory to close.

AES Industries, an Alabama-based manufacturer of roof curbs and provider of specialty recycling and landfill avoidance programs, has agreed to acquire the Sunoptics business from Acuity Brands. Sunoptics is a Sacramento-based manufacturer of prismatic skylights and daylighting delivery systems. AES expects the transaction to close on November 10, 2022. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Concurrent with AES Industries' acquisition announcement, Acuity Brands submitted a filing to the California Employment Development Department indicating the permanent closure of the Sunoptics factory in South Sacramento which will result in the layoffs of 98 workers.

Cathy Lewandowski, a spokesperson for Acuity Brands, told the Sacramento Business Journal, "After a careful review of our product portfolio, we are divesting and discontinuing our daylighting business and plan to sell the Sunoptics brand to AES Industries and close our Sacramento facility."

In addition to AES Industries' Alabama headquarters, the company cites additional manufacturing-recycling centers, strategically located across the country in Nevada, Texas, and West Virginia.

Sunoptics was founded in 1978 and was acquired by Acuity Brands in an all-cash transaction on February 23, 2011.
