Settlement resolves dispute involving patented recessed track lighting technology for standard 5/8-inch drywall

CHICAGO — PureEdge Lighting today announced that it has reached a settlement with LightBlue USA & Associates LLC (d/b/a Rayhil Inc.), resolving PureEdge’s patent infringement lawsuit concerning trimless recessed track lighting systems.

PureEdge filed the lawsuit on March 12, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The action, Pure Edge Lighting LLC v. LightBlue USA & Associates LLC, Case No. 1:26-cv-01458, alleged willful infringement of U.S. Patent No. 10,240,762, titled “Electric Recessible Track Assembly and Method of Installation in Standard 5/8-Inch Thick Drywall.”

According to the complaint, Rayhil’s QUE Trimless Track system incorporated technology claimed by the ’762 patent. PureEdge alleged that the accused recessed track configuration included a channel designed for installation within a surface approximately 5/8 inch thick, along with lateral flanges that secure the channel to the surface and can be concealed with finishing material to create a trimless appearance.

The complaint further alleged that LightBlue USA continued offering the accused system after receiving notice of PureEdge’s patent rights. PureEdge therefore asserted claims of direct and willful patent infringement and sought damages and other relief available under federal patent law. LightBlue USA denied liability in its response to the complaint.

Following months of negotiation, the companies reached a settlement, and the litigation concluded in May 2026. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

PureEdge Lighting pioneered recessed track lighting engineered to fit within standard 5/8-inch drywall. This approach allows a track system to integrate cleanly into a ceiling or wall without extending beyond the drywall or requiring alteration of existing studs and joists. The technology combines the flexibility and adjustability of track lighting with the refined, nearly invisible appearance of a recessed architectural system.

U.S. Patent No. 10,240,762 was issued to PureEdge Lighting on March 26, 2019. PureEdge commercializes its patented recessed track lighting technology through its TruTrack® and MicroTrack product families, which provide architects, lighting designers, interior designers, and specifiers with flexible tools for creating precise, integrated lighting compositions.

The resolution reinforces PureEdge Lighting’s commitment to protecting the intellectual property behind its products and preserving the value of original design and engineering within the architectural lighting industry. PureEdge will continue to invest in new technologies while taking appropriate steps to safeguard its patented innovations.
