Barton Associates, Inc. Names Shawn Good New Director of Architectural Lighting
Barton Associates, Inc. announced today the evolution of its architectural lighting studio under the leadership of Shawn Good, PE, LC, LEED AP, who joins the firm as Director of Architectural Lighting. With more than 28 years of experience in lighting design and sustainable architecture, Shawn will guide the growth of Barton’s lighting studio across all offices and markets.
Reimagining Barton’s Lighting Studio
Guided by Shawn’s vision, Barton is launching a reimagined architectural lighting studio that looks beyond illumination to shape emotion and human experience while delivering high-performance lighting that unites creative intent with building performance.
“Barton is reimagining what lighting can mean for our clients and how we make buildings work. Shawn is the leader who will bring that vision forward. His mastery of design, engineering, and human-centered outcomes aligns exactly with where we’re headed,” said Michael Rader, PE, CEM, President and CEO of Barton Associates.
Shawn’s experience spans Barton’s core markets—education, healthcare, multi-family and mixed-use, and senior living—as well as retail, hospitality, corporate, entertainment, worship, transportation, historic, and museum environments. He is known for guiding the full arc of lighting design, from early concepts and mockups to photometric analysis and custom luminaires, collaborating closely with architects to translate intent into human-centered spaces.
About Shawn Good
Shawn holds the Lighting Certified (LC) credential, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. A graduate of the Architectural Engineering program at Penn State University, he now serves as a Practitioner Instructor in the same program and leads Nittany Lights, a bi-annual interactive landscape lighting workshop connecting students with industry practitioners and emerging designers.
“I’m excited to join Barton at a moment when lighting is becoming a defining element of how buildings perform and how they are experienced,” said Shawn. “At its best, lighting goes beyond requirements—it supports well-being, reveals architecture, and creates emotion in a space. The opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and grow a studio that looks beyond fixtures and calculations toward experience, connection, and what’s possible next is compelling.”
