Mike’s story began in 1978, when he graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and took his first professional role at Square D in Orange County. From there, his career advanced rapidly:
- ESD, Costa Mesa (1980–1984)
- Bell Wholesale, Los Angeles (1984–1992)
- Qualified QES (1992-1993)
- SCI, Irvine (1993–1998) – marking Mike’s pivotal entry into the lighting rep world.
- CAL Lighting, San Francisco (1998–Present) – where his legacy truly took shape.
In 2001, Mike took the helm at CAL Lighting, leading the company with unmatched vision and passion. His entrepreneurial spirit, deep product knowledge, and talent for building lasting relationships have made him a respected figure across the industry.
Mike turned the day-to-day operations of CAL Lighting over to Pete Chapman, Matt Butala, and Melinda LaValle in mid-2022 and the company continues to thrive.
Now, after an illustrious career, Mike is heading into a well-earned retirement—and a bold new chapter. He and his wife, Kathy, are relocating to St. Helena, where Mike will pursue a second act in the wine industry. Knowing Mike, we expect this next venture to be every bit as successful, spirited, and memorable as his first.
