More Than 11,000 Lithonia Outdoor Area Lights Recalled

Adjustable mounting arm failures prompt recall after four fixtures fell; no injuries reported
Acuity's Lithonia Lighting is recalling 11,532 RSX LED area luminaires fitted with adjustable tilt arm mountings after reports that the arm’s knuckle can fail and allow the fixture to fall. The recall was announced Oct. 22 in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The RSX family is Lithonia’s LED area light line, designed for one-for-one replacement of metal halide and high pressure sodium fixtures in parking lots and other outdoor applications. The RSX1 delivers 7,000 to 17,000 lumens, replacing 70W to 400W HID luminaires, while the larger RSX2 reaches about 31,000 lumens. An integral “no-drill” arm fits most existing pole drillings, and the line offers eight mounting options.
Within Acuity’s outdoor portfolio, the RSX sits in the lower part of the price range, positioned to help customers meet payback thresholds on HID retrofits. The line still carries IP66-rated light engines, DLC Premium qualified versions and a five-year limited warranty.
Four Mountings, Two Production Windows
The recall covers four adjustable tilt arm mountings: AASP (square pole), AARP (round pole), AAWB (wall bracket) and AAWSC (wall bracket with surface conduit box). The arm lets installers aim the luminaire from 0 to 90 degrees above horizontal. Affected arms were made in the United States and Mexico between August 2019 and July 2020, and again between August 2024 and April 2026 (excluding RSX1/RSXF1 in the 2024–2026 window).
According to the CPSC, the units were sold through commercial electrical distributors nationwide from August 2019 to August 2026 for $400 to $2,200. Lithonia has received 13 reports of arms breaking, including four in which the fixture fell. No injuries have been reported. Per the spec sheet, an RSX1 with a tilt arm weighs 25 to 31 pounds.
The CPSC notice does not mention Canadian sales, and a weekend search of Health Canada’s recall notices turned up no corresponding posting. Lithonia’s 2020 bracket recall, by contrast, was conducted jointly with Health Canada.
In a statement to us, an Acuity spokesperson said Lithonia is conducting the voluntary recall in cooperation with the CPSC “because the knuckle of the arm can fail and cause the luminaire to fall. No injuries have been reported. Customers should visit lithonia.acuitybrands.com for information on affected products and the free repair process.” Owners are advised to keep clear of the area beneath affected luminaires. Not every RSX tilt arm is included, so owners should confirm eligibility with Lithonia at 855-307-2454, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET weekdays. Under the repair, a qualified professional replaces the recalled mount with a new complete adjustable arm assembly at no charge.

Smaller Than the Last One
This is the second Lithonia mounting-related recall in six years. In August 2020, the brand recalled CFMK surface-mount brackets used with CPANL LED panels, about 318,500 units in the U.S. and 11,600 in Canada, after 24 reports of fixtures coming loose or falling and one reported injury.
The RSX recall involves fewer than one-twentieth as many units, but the remedy is more involved: a qualified professional replaces each affected arm assembly in the field, rather than the company shipping a repair kit. Acuity, Lithonia’s parent and North America’s largest lighting manufacturer, recognized $31.7 million in product warranty costs in fiscal 2026 and ended the year on Aug. 31 with $37.8 million in warranty liabilities.
