Sealed (and Gasketed): Cooper Closes Nemalux Acquisition
Deal complements Fail-Safe capabilities and strengthens Cooper’s industrial portfolio
Cooper Lighting Solutions has officially completed its previously announced acquisition of Nemalux, a Calgary-based manufacturer specializing in hazardous location LED lighting. The deal brings a new layer of industrial capability to Cooper’s portfolio and marks a strategic expansion into high-specification lighting for harsh environments.
Nemalux, founded in 2003, manufactures durable, mission-critical lighting used in oil and gas, chemical processing, and other industrial sectors. The company will maintain its Canadian manufacturing base and continue operating under the Cooper Lighting Solutions umbrella, part of parent company Signify. Cooper Lighting President Kraig Kasler described the acquisition as an opportunity to deliver “high-performance, energy-efficient LED lighting solutions” across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
This move complements Cooper’s existing high-abuse offering under the Fail-Safe brand, which serves critical-use environments like healthcare, cleanrooms, and correctional facilities. With the addition of Nemalux, Cooper extends its ruggedization portfolio into hazardous and extreme industrial applications — giving specifiers more comprehensive solutions under one roof.
Nemalux’s integration into Cooper’s network is expected to extend the reach of its products, which have previously seen selective market representation through existing Cooper agents like Reflex Lighting and JJM Associates. The acquisition also gives Cooper its first manufacturing footprint in Canada, enhancing its regional capabilities and supply chain presence in North America.
No financial details were disclosed, and the transaction closed without regulatory complications. The focus now turns to aligning Nemalux’s specialized offerings with Cooper’s distribution and commercialization strategies.
