NALMCO Event to Proceed Despite Hurricane Milton
NALMCO event stays on track for Sunday start. Disney World reopens Friday.
Hurricane Milton made landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast on Wednesday night as a Category 3 storm, causing widespread evacuations and damage. The storm weakened to a Category 1 as it cut across central Florida, including the Orlando area, before moving offshore early Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Despite the storm’s impact, NALMCO (InterNational Association of Lighting Management Companies) has confirmed that its 71st Annual Convention & Trade Show in ChampionsGate, near Orlando, will continue as planned starting Sunday October 13. A slightly larger local attraction, Disney World, is closed all day Thursday but is set to reopen on Friday.
In a communication to attendees earlier this week, NALMCO acknowledged the concerns regarding Hurricane Milton but reassured participants that the event will proceed without delay. The statement noted that weather forecasts predict favorable conditions for the duration of the event.
The organization encouraged participants to stay updated on weather conditions via the National Hurricane Center’s website and to plan accordingly. “We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Please contact meetings@nalmco.org with any questions or concerns,” the communication added.
