IALD Announces 2021 Inductees to College of Fellows

CHICAGO, IL USA,  | The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), welcomes two new members to the IALD College of Fellows. The IALD Fellow designation is awarded to members of the IALD for their valuable contribution to the art and science of lighting design, and for exemplary service to the IALD. Fellows are professional members with a minimum of ten years of experience who are nominated and selected by their peers for this designation. Denise Fong, FIALD and Andreas Schulz, FIALD, CLD, were formally inducted at the 2021 IALD College of Fellows event at LightFair in New York, NY USA.

Denise Fong has more than 35 years of experience in specialized lighting design. Recognized by her professional peers with numerous design achievement awards, she is highly skilled in developing high quality, energy efficient lighting systems for a wide variety of project types. 

A national leader in sustainable design initiatives, Denise believes that good lighting design should be mindful of the use of raw materials and energy consumption without sacrificing the surprise and joy that lighting can add to an environment. Keeping abreast of rapidly changing technologies, she focuses on innovations in lighting systems by taking advantage of daylighting techniques and LED technology. 

Denise is a supporter of the lighting design profession. She has served two terms each on the IALD Board of Directors, the Energy and Sustainability Committee, and the Nominations and Elections committee. She is the author of numerous articles and speaks frequently on lighting design. Denise is an advocate for all that work with her and has been a wonderful mentor, champion, and someone many are proud to call a friend.

Andreas Schulz has more than 30 years of lighting design experience. After studying electrical engineering, Andreas completed his postgraduate studies in light and lighting design at the Institute of Technology in Germany. In 1991, he founded Licht Kunst Licht in Bonn and Berlin. Since its founding, the company has participated in more than 800 projects around the world and has received numerous internationally recognized lighting design awards.
 
In addition to his professional practice, Andreas is passionate about education. In 2002, he founded the lighting designprogram at the University for Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim [hil·duhz·hime] where he has been a professor ever since. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and educating the next generation of lighting designers. 
 
Andreas’s contribution to the profession extends to the public sector. Since 2007, he has been a Lighting and Energy consultant for the Federal Republic of Germany, a member of the Berlin Lighting Advisory Council, and a consultant to the building works senator within the German senatorial administrative office for urban development.
 
Andreas’ contributions to the IALD are many. He joined as a Professional member in 2000 and has held volunteer positions including two terms as a Director of the IALD Board of Directors and Chair of the IALD Europe Steering Committee.
