Lighting company among Canada's fastest growing.  Soldier Field hosts a lighting event and party.

 

Here's a roundup of some of the week's happenings curated to help lighting people stay informed.    

 

1. Acuity Brands Recognizes its Top Suppliers

Each day, the Georgia Aquarium commissary churns out over 1400 pounds of food for their aquatic sea animals. Last week, however, the aquarium served much higher-quality human food to Acuity Brands management and some of the company's top suppliers during the Acuity Brands Supplier Appreciation event. 

Below is a list of the companies recognized by Acuity Brands for outstanding performance along with some of the general product categories that each of the suppliers produce. Acuity Brands evaluated vendors across numerous criteria including the 5 P's: Planet, Partner, People, Profit and Product.

Pace Industries — Die casting

Suppliers that were recognized for one or more categories and won a finalist award were:

  • Samsung Electronics — LEDs and LED modules

  • Danhil de México — Containers and packaging

  • Silicon Labs — Intelligent wireless technology

  • PLASKOLITE — Acrylic polymer, extruded profiles, extruded sheet (acrylic and polycarbonate), continuous & cell cast sheet and light guide panels.

  • Steel Technologies — Steel and aluminum

 


2.  Agent Lighting Event takes over NFL Stadium

Even with the Chicago Bears off to a surprising 2-1 start this year, one of the more exciting things to occur at Soldier Field this fall season is the KSA Lighting & Controls “Rock the Night” event that occurred on Thursday night.  Show organizers report that over 1200 lighting people attended the afternoon lighting agency showcase that also offered CEU courses and eventually morphed into an evening concert performance featuring multiple artists.

 

 

 


3.  Kuzco Lighting among Canada’s Top Growing Companies

British Columbia's Kuzco Lighting, a manufacturer of minimalist lighting for residential and commercial applications has been ranked by the Globe & Mail to be among Canada's Top Growing Companies for the second time in company history.  Kuzco ranked 270th and reportedly experienced a recent 3-year revenue growth of 130%.  The company's 167 employees reportedly generate revenues in the range of $50-75 million (CAD).

4.  Woman Struck by Falling Light Pole in Boston

The City of Boston removed 23 light posts from a Boston bridge after a woman was struck by a falling pole while walking across that bridge in the Seaport District, an incident first reported by the WCVB I-Team.

5. Sonepar to Acquire PEPCO

Sonepar announced Wednesday that its U.S. subsidiary has entered into an agreement to acquire Professional Electric Products Co. Inc.  The deal will add 10 branches across Ohio and Pennsylvania to the Sonepar network.
