The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) announces new University Membership Category to inspire the next generation of lighting professionals and support educators.

The IES has launched a new University Membership effective August 11, 2020 that provides multiple benefits and offerings to education institutions that have dedicated lighting programs. This new membership was created to support and inspire the next generation of lighting professionals and offers students, academics, researchers and instructors with full-access to lighting knowledge, publications, educational materials and much more – enhancing their learning and teaching experiences.

By facilitating an early exposure to IES membership offerings, students can engage in professional forums and leverage industry resources that ultimately help advance their careers and support their professional growth.

The application can be found at www.ies.org/university. The University Membership is due in August in order to coincide with the academic calendars. The list of benefits highlights the new Lighting LibraryTM offering (coming soon) which provides access for students and faculty to all updated and expanded IES Standards including the overall replacement of the 2010 IES Lighting Handbook - providing an arsenal of updated industry and market knowledge. It will be available on-demand, completely searchable, providing customization tools such as annotations, tagged bookmarks, and red-lined version comparison to further educational goals. In addition, all students enrolled in the lighting program will receive a complimentary student membership with the IES.

By launching the new University Membership, the IES supports the larger commitment expressed in its mission where it seeks "to improve the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public.”
