Business Development Manager

Business Development Manager:  Hybrid (90% remote)

The purpose of the Business Development Manager is to help the company grow in new markets by creating, developing, and supporting new business relationships with lighting manufacturer representative agencies and other potential streams of business.


Executive Duties

  • Collaborate with the core leadership team in setting and driving organizational vision, operational strategy, and departmental needs

  • Maintain regular meetings to communicate with the leadership team in regards to departmental updates and issues

  • Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth

  • Provide solutions to issues that may arise (e.g. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors)

  • Develop annual and quarterly plans for your department

  • Ensure objectives and KPIs for your department have an appropriate budget allocated that is followed and adjusted as needed to maximize profitability

  • Assist in creating strategy to meet financial goals


Business Development

  • Formulate, maintain, and implement sales strategies that include milestones around the onboarding of new manufacturer sales rep agencies

  • Develop and foster relationships with manufacturer sales rep agencies, key development accounts, and new business segments to provide solutions and convert needs into opportunities.

  • Conduct market research, emerging needs, and competition assessments that are all communicated to leadership

  • Forecast sales of products as it relates to success at developing customers and end user specifications

  • Assist in recommending product pricing for new business development applications and segments

  • Work with leadership to create a strategic tradeshow strategy that includes developing booth elements, creating a show schedule, and attending trade shows.


New Market Development

  • Ensure the continuity of reporting to leadership

  • Provide or arrange technical service to customers as needed related to new product development.

  • Train and update representatives

  • Work with the product team to introduce new products to agencies

  • Work with operations and marketing to assist in developing the systems and marketing collateral necessary to be successful

  • Educate customer service and sales teams on manufacturers rep agency information

  • Accurately promote the company’s brand image with all existing customers and potential customers

  • Provide leadership within the specification and sales process



  • 5+ years of experience in the lighting and/or electrical industry

  • 5+ years of experience in sales

  • Management experience

  • Training experience

  • Experience working with lighting manufacturers, lighting distributors, and lighting sales reps

  • Ability to read lighting schedules and other basic construction documents

  • Experience with quoting lighting projects

  • Ability to travel up to 60% as needed

  • Valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving record

  • Knowledge of basic financial analysis

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites

  • Familiarity with marketing and sales techniques

  • Practical working knowledge of lighting/electrical systems

  • Proven deal closer and track record in achieving/exceeding sales targets; dynamic team player with the drive to succeed and learn new things

  • Ability to create new business through innovation; thrives on working in highly dynamic and ambiguous environments


Salary:  Based on experience the salary range is between $90K and $125K.



This position would be reporting to the Director of Integration and would be responsible for the supervision of lighting manufacturer representative agencies as well as internal salespeople.
