Job Summary:
We are looking for a talented and driven Lighting Product Engineer to join our innovative team in the lighting industry. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, developing, and launching high-performance commercial, industrial, and architectural lighting solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver products that combine cutting-edge technology, energy efficiency, and superior quality while meeting the highest industry standards and customer needs. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test lighting fixtures and systems, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, reliability, and full compliance with standards such as UL, CSA, DLC, ANSI, NEC, and IES.
- Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, sales, marketing, and quality teams to bring new products from concept to production.
- Perform feasibility studies, engineering analyses, and risk assessments for new product initiatives.
- Select materials, components, and manufacturing processes to balance cost, performance, durability, and sustainability.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including 3D models, drawings, specifications, and test reports.
- Support quality initiatives by troubleshooting defects, driving root-cause analysis, and implementing process improvements.
- Stay current with emerging lighting technologies, trends in controls and IoT integration, and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical expertise and application support to customers and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in product design and development within the lighting industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of LED technology, optics, power electronics, thermal management, and lighting controls.
- Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred; AutoCAD a plus).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
Preferred:
- Experience with photometric testing, energy efficiency certifications (DLC, ENERGY STAR), and lighting control systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes including injection molding, die-casting, extrusion, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of lighting standards and regulatory compliance (UL, CSA, FCC, etc.).
- Comfort with AI tools (e.g., Claude) to accelerate research, documentation, and design iteration — or, if not yet experienced, a genuine willingness to learn and develop that skill.
