Mechanical Engineer II

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for participating in the design, development, and release of lighting products that are relevant to the residential and commercial markets. The design projects to be worked on are dictated by MRDs (Marketing Requirements Documents) which are created by the project management team. The team will work in tandem with the Mechanical Engineer II during the development of those MRDs to determine project requirements and goals based on feasibility, customer needs, and cost. The Mechanical Engineer II will then be responsible for carrying those projects to fruition, managing product costs and lead times to meet and exceed expectations set by project management.
Responsibilities
- Work on designated design projects using the DLGNA product development process.
- Able to communicate product status to relevant stakeholders at designated intervals.
- Active engagement and training with purchasing, planning and production to ensure BOMs, and pricing are properly loaded into SAP, components are ordered, and production workers are properly trained on the assembly process.
- Able to communicate and analyze product material and labor cost to assist with the financial teams to ensure product profitability.
- Utilize expertise in 3D modeling and mechanical design principles to ensure file structures and processes are properly documented for responsible projects.
- Execute on comprehensive test plans and specifications for product validation (UL, Thermal, Photometry, General Safety).
- Work with engineering group to perform DFMA analysis of design projects and provide feedback relevant to improving cost, lead-time, capability, etc.
- Participate in further developing engineering standards for documentation.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and collaborate closely.
- Maintain focus on quality assurance throughout the design process.
- Lead by example, demonstrating strong work ethic and dedication to excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or relevant work experience.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant design experience.
- Strong experience using Autocad Inventor, SolidWorks or similar.
- Experience in the lighting industry a strong plus.
- Experience with lighting specific software such as Photopia, AGI, etc. a plus.
- Design to cost, able to design with cost in mind to satisfy the business’s profitability requirements.
- Capable of performing tolerance stack analyses.
- Deep understanding of DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) to ensure ergonomic and cost-efficient assembly processes, and overall product design.
- Skilled at designing aluminum extrusions, aluminum die castings, and extruded plastics.
- Strong collaboration skills regarding component design with third party vendors having technical expertise beyond ours.
- Skilled in designing stamped sheet metal parts with knowledge of forming techniques, tooling requirements, and assembly considerations.
- Capable of specifying machining requirements for both metal and plastic parts ensuring precision and efficiency within the manufacturing processes.
- Experience in directing the creation and checking of drawings ensuring compliance with industry standards and design specifications.
- Expertise working with compliance standards such as UL, ETL and CSA.

$90,000 – $120,000
