IESNYC Honors Lumen Award Winners

We went to our first Lumen Awards in the mid-90's when it was held at a not-so-glamourous hotel on the Northwest corner of 8th Ave & 34th Street. The 175 (or so) people who attended made up what was considered to be a "good sized" crowd. And, to the best of our knowledge, the word "gala" hadn't yet been used to describe the event.
Over the years, the Lumen Awards Gala has morphed into a premier lighting industry event with 900+ attendees and sold-out tables. The awards are managed the local New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC), but the event attracts attendees from near and far. Lighting professionals mark their calendars for the mid-June festivities and often plan their personal summer vacations so that they don't overlap with the event. Fashion. Cocktails. Live music. A well-produced program. And the After Glow dance party for those who can dance and/or don't have a weeknight curfew.
This year, understandably, the Awards are being announced in a less glamourous, digital manner, but the amazing projects and the long list of uber-talented lighting design teams still deserve our attention and appreciation. All of the winners have been announced, and IESNYC is rolling out a 14-day campaign that gives each project its own moment in the spotlight. We will miss the often entertaining and sometimes touching acceptance speeches, but we will still take time to appreciate these projects and their designers. Below is a link to the press release issued by the IESNYC.
Congratulations to all of the talented designers whose incredible work is honored and recognized.
