On Monday, September 21, Exponation, the Atlanta-based company that produces multiple trade shows and conferences, including LightShow West and LED Specifier Summit, filed for bankruptcy in Georgia Northern Bankruptcy Court.
The Denver LED Specifier Summit planned for April 2021 is canceled. The very popular bi-annual LightShow West trade show scheduled for September 2021 is canceled.
Exponation filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which is an indication that the company intends to liquidate assets in order to pay debts. (Chapter 11 bankruptcy classifications are generally used for reorganization or rehabilitation that usually give companies a better chance to survive long-term.)
The company claims to have over $3M due to creditors. The list of assets they plan to liquidate has an estimated worth of $94,433. Exponation owe debts to 509 creditors including the following:

Meetings industry companies often measure in-person attendance as one of the most important metrics to determine a show's success. With COVID-19 sidelining trade shows and cutting off major revenue streams it's understandable that a trade show production company would face these challenges during a prolonged pandemic.
LightShow West has long been an extremely popular lighting event hosted biannually in the Los Angeles area. While the show would often draw a high percentage of attendees from California, the show also attracted a significant attendee base from other parts of the U.S.
The West Coast lighting community is large, strong and extremely active. There is a strong appetite for regional lighting trade shows. When trade shows once again return to being a normal activity, we are confident that we will eventually see a new show producer serve the regional lighting communities with lighting industry events in the future.
