Cooper Lighting Job Cuts Could Affect Tax Break

Cooper Lighting is reportedly cutting up to 300 jobs over the next year at its Vicksburg, MS location.

The Vicksburg Post reports that recently announced job cuts at Cooper Lighting's Vicksburg, Mississippi manufacturing plant may affect their eligibility for local tax breaks.  According to the report, Cooper Lighting's recent $1.1M upgrade made them potentially eligible to receive a tax break in excess of $40,000.  During a recent Warren County Board of Supervisors meeting, the report of the job cuts caused the Board to pause its vote on the matter until more information could be reviewed.

The Vicksburg plant manufactures some of Cooper Lighting's outdoor and vandal-proof products.  In 2017, the company reportedly moved a few dozen jobs from Vicksburg to Mexico, so it's possible that this reported job cut in Mississipi will be offset with added jobs in Mexico.

Our Sunday afternoon request for a Cooper Lighting comment was not returned by press time.
