Join our LUX Illuminaire Team as a Senior Lighting Design Engineer
LUX Illuminaire is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Design Engineer to lead the development of innovative lighting products. This role is responsible for driving product design from concept through production, ensuring that solutions meet performance, cost, quality, and compliance objectives. You will work closely with product management, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to bring new lighting innovations to life, combining creative thinking with strong technical execution.

What You’ll Do
Product Design & Development
- Lead the design and development of new lighting products and improvements to existing platforms.
- Translate customer and market requirements into manufacturable, cost-effective solutions.
- Utilize SolidWorks (including Sheet Metal module) to create robust 3D models and detailed drawings.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, materials, and processes to enhance product innovation and reliability.
- Identify opportunities for patentable design and intellectual property protection.
Testing, Quality & Compliance
- Define and execute product testing protocols to validate performance and safety.
- Investigate and resolve field failures, applying structured root cause analysis.
- Maintain DFMEAs and critical design parameters aligned with quality and reliability goals.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry and regulatory standards (e.g., UL, FCC) and maintain accurate documentation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with product management, customers, and internal engineering teams to define technical solutions.
- Support Manufacturing and Quality with design transfer, tooling input, and production readiness.
- Work with Procurement to evaluate alternate materials and suppliers for cost and risk optimization.
- Participate in customer meetings, audits, and technical design reviews.
Project Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge across teams.
- Maintain broad business awareness by aligning design activities with strategic priorities.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Design, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in product design engineering, with demonstrated success developing products from concept to production.
- Proficient in SolidWorks, including the Sheet Metal module, with ability to create robust 3D models and production-ready drawings.
- Strong understanding of DFMEA, DFM/DFA GD&T principles, and tolerance analysis.
- Demonstrated experience conducting design validation testing and supporting root cause analysis for product failures.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements, including UL, FCC, or similar standards.
- Excellent follow-up skills to maintain strong connections with customers
- Excellent problem-solving skills and clear, concise communication abilities.
- Must be self-directed and have a strong work ethic and professional attitude.
- Must be able to manage multiple project workloads with assigned due dates.
- Experience in a structured and standardized Engineering environment.
- Ability to travel up to 15% with the possibility of some international travel.
Preferred
- Experience in the lighting industry, including familiarity with photometric performance, thermal management, and LED systems.
- Knowledge of electromechanical integration and working with power supplies, drivers, or control systems.
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment, with knowledge of quality systems and audit processes.
- Familiarity with PLM and ERP systems for BOM management, change control, and part lifecycle tracking.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis tools a plus
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical teams.
- Good understanding of metal forming, injection molding, extrusion and assembly processes
- Exposure to intellectual property strategy, including invention disclosures and patentable design contributions.
