Lighting Controls Designer
Boston, Massachusetts
Sladen Feinstein is looking for a Lighting Controls Designer to join our Boston office. This is a full-time role that primarily focuses on lighting control design but also will include providing both technical and lighting design support for our lighting design team. At Sladen Feinstein, we work on a diverse range of project types—including commercial, academic, multi-family, healthcare, hospitality, civic, and exterior lighting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the lighting control design of the project throughout all phases.
- Work with senior team members to design and specify lighting controls solutions appropriate to client expectations, budget, and relevant standards.
- Coordinate the lighting control systems with daylight harvesting controls.
- Maintain communication with the client and design team in conjunction with senior team members to manage projects.
- Prepare and conduct presentations to clients with Associate/Principals.
- Assist with documentation of the lighting design and lighting control design in CAD/Revit format.
- Assist with creating lighting schedules, light fixture cuts, specifications, control zone diagram, one-line drawing, lighting scene schedule, and engraving.
- Assist with on-site lighting controls commissioning with manufacturer and client.
- Work with local representatives for specification assistance and budget pricing.
- Generate lighting calculations for review with senior team members.
- Assist construction administration tasks, including review of lighting submittals and lighting control submittals, and answering RFIs.
- Collaborate with internal and remote team members.
- Attend client meetings and site visit as needed.
- Work in hybrid model and be in office for designated in-office days.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in electrical or architectural engineering, lighting design, theatrical lighting, architecture, interior design, or related field.
- 2-5 years’ work experience with lighting controls design and specifications across architectural, interior and landscape design projects.
- Knowledge of lighting control systems, as well as analog and digital lighting controls and working knowledge of architectural luminaires.
- An understanding of lighting design
- An understanding and interest in sustainable design and its concept.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and AGI MS Office, and Bluebeam
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet demanding client needs.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge in Enscape and/or other rendering software.
- Knowledge in Adobe suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightstanza
- Knowledge of lighting control integration with 3rd party systems.
- Knowledge in DMX, Dali, PoE system design.
- Onsite commissioning experience
- Understanding and working knowledge of sustainable design, including LEED, WELL, Passive House, Net Zero.
- Strong design sensibility and appreciation for design communication.
- Time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects during the same timeframe.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage client relationships and correspondence.
