Lighting Systems Index

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Lighting Systems Index is a composite measure of NEMA member companies’ U.S. shipments of a variety of lighting products, including lamps, luminaires, ballasts, emergency lighting, and exit signs, and is designed to track underlying demand for these types of equipment. Product shipments data are drawn from statistical surveys conducted regularly and are adjusted for inflation and regularly recurring seasonal fluctuations.

NEMA's Lighting System Shipment Index, a measure of demand for lighting equipment, decreased by 9.7 percent in 3Q 2016 compared to 3Q 2015 and 4.7 percent decrease compared to last quarter (2Q 2016).

The decrease was driven by all components of the index which includes fixtures, emergency lighting, ballast, and lamp – large and miniature – components which all posted year-over-year decreases.
