After nearly two years of live event postponements, cancellations and on-the-fly conversions to virtual events, 2022 may be the year that in-person lighting industry events see a steady comeback

A steady flow of in-person lighting-related events is scheduled for 2022. As people have returned to stadiums, arenas and airports, the organizers of trade shows and conferences are expecting the collective palettes of businesspeople to once again be open to attending trade shows and conferences at convention centers and hotels.

Two new events, LightSPEC West and LightSPEC Midwest will have inaugural events in Fall 2022. The events are owned by Endeavor Business Media who, in 2021, purchased the assets of the now-defunct LightShow West and LED Specifier Summit.

ArchLIGHT Summit had its first-ever event in September 2021, and is planning its second iteration at the Dallas Market Center in September.

Light + Building and LEDucation occur simultaneously in March. Many North American lighting professionals may opt to spend their time in New York City in lieu of flying to Germany for the first Light + Building since 2018.

And, of course, just 7 months and 3 weeks after LightFair 2021 wrapped up in New York, LightFair 2022 returns to Las Vegas in June 2022.

Strategies in Light is not planning a 2022 event at this time – in-person, virtual or otherwise.

An unintended consequence of the pandemic is that it may have accelerated the adoption of “hybrid conferences” that provide simultaneous in-person and live virtual opportunities to engage with the event. Some conferences, however, may be hesitant to fully embrace a live virtual component for fear that the virtual option may dissuade some participants from attending in person.
